KDE Plasma 5.7.3, a bugfix release

KDE Plasma 5.7.1 released

The KDE team recently announced the release of KDE Plasma 5.7.1, a bugfix update to KDE Plasma 5, versioned 5.7.1. Plasma 5.7 was released in July with many feature refinements and new modules to complete the desktop experience. This release adds a week’s worth of new translations and fixes from KDE’s contributors. Manjaro Drops KDE 4 for good, Switches to Plasma 5.5

The developers of the Manjaro Linux operating system recently announced the general availability of Manjaro 15.12 (Capella) Update 2015-12-13, which is in testing phase. A notable update in this release is that Manjaro will drop support for KDE 4 for good and switch over to Plasma 5.5. According to Philip Müller: This is one of the biggest updates we did so far. Mostly due the C++ 11 ABI change within gcc.

KDE Plasma 5.5 released with Updated Breeze Plasma Theme, Wayland Session, New Default Font

The KDE team recently announced the release of a feature update to its desktop software, KDE Plasma 5.5. This latest release comes with a hots of updates, bug fixes and features. With Plasma 5.5 a basic Wayland session is provided; The default font has switched to Noto a beautiful and free font which aims to support all languages with a harmonious look and feel. KDE Plasma 5.5 on Wayland will feature Screenlocker integration in KWin

Bhushan Shah recently posted on his blog page, an on going project work he has been working on to integrate the Lockscreen with KWin Wayland session. According to him, this is the most important bit of the Plasma on Wayland session. Currently in X11 lockscreen is managed by ksmserver (KDE’s session manager). Its also noted that in Wayland, lockscreen functionality should be moved in kwin_wayland, so that compositor is aware that screen is locked, what windows are owned by greeter, and what should get input events.

KDE Frameworks 5.16.0 released with Lots of Plasma Improvements

KDE team recently announced that KDE Frameworks 5.16.0 toolkit has been updated with numerous changes for the latest KDE Plasma 5 desktop environment, which appears to be the last maintenance release in the KDE Plasma 5.4 series. “KDE today announces the release of KDE Frameworks 5.16.0. KDE Frameworks are 60 addon libraries to Qt which provide a wide variety of commonly needed functionality in mature, peer reviewed and well tested libraries with friendly licensing terms.

KDE Ships KDE Applications 15.04.0

KDE team recently released KDE Applications 15.04. With this release a total of 72 applications have been ported to KDE Frameworks 5. With this release there are several new additions to the KDE Frameworks 5-based applications list, including KHangMan, Rocs, Cantor, Kompare, Kdenlive, KDE Telepathy and some KDE Games. Kdenlive is one of the best non-linear video editing software available. It recently finished its incubation process to become an official KDE project and was ported to KDE Frameworks 5.

KDE Ships Plasma 5.3 Beta v5.2.95, New Feature Released

The KDE team has announced the release of Plasma 5.3 beta version 5.2.95, which makes a huge step towards to supporting the Wayland windowing system in addition to the default X11 windowing system. Plasma’s window manager and compositor KWin is now able to start a nested XWayland server, which acts as a bridge between the old (X11) and the new (Wayland) world. X11 windows can connect to this server as if it were a normal X server, for KWin it looks like a Wayland window, though.

The KDE team has announced the release of Plasma 5.2 beta version. This release adds a number of new components and improves the existing desktop. This release of Plasma comes with some new components to make your desktop even more complete: BlueDevil: a range of desktop components to manage Bluetooth devices. It’ll set up your mouse, keyboard, send & receive files and you can browse for devices KSSHAskPass: if you access computers with ssh keys but those keys have passwords this module will give you a graphical UI to enter those passwords Muon: install and manage software and other addons for your computer Login theme configuration (SDDM): SDDM is now the login manager of choice for Plasma and this new System Settings module allows you to configure the theme Read On
