Fedora 26 removes the synaptics driver

Jan Kurik , Red Hat’s Fedora program Manager informed us about a system-wide change on the fedora 26 release. His proposal is the retirement of synaptics X11 drivers , provided by xorg-x11-dvr-synaptics package. Ferora project’s dev team decided the removal to offer users a better touchpad experience from the default install on Fedora 26 Linux default install that is released in june 2017. For users who prefer synaptics instead of libinput can still install it.

Linux 4.8 RC1 released, AMDGPU driver overclocking supports

Linux 4.8 RC1 recently released, is the first release candidate of the Linux 4.8 kernel. According to Linus Torvalds mailing list, the merge windows for the 4.8 release is now closed, hence the main changes in the new version has been fixed. This seems to be building up to be one of the bigger releases lately, but let’s see how it all ends up. The merge window has been fairly normal, although the patch itself looks somewhat unusual: over 20% of the patch is documentation updates, due to conversion of the drm and media documentation from docbook to the Sphinx doc format.

NVIDIA GeForce 359.12 Hotfix for GTX 860M Graphics Cards was recently released this week and this release comes as a new Hotfix driver that addresses the following issue “Game crashes on certain GeForce GTX 860M notebooks”. While it’s not mentioned by Nvidia in the release notes, it looks like the current drivers fix crashing issues reported on the GTX 960M as well. Based on the responses in the GeForce forums, it does look like the 359.

Linux Kernel 4.2-RC5 released

Linus Torvalds recently announced the fifth release of Linux Kernel 4.2-RC5, which is immediate availability for download and testing. Linux Kernel 3.16 Final Release Out with Little Changes

Linus Torvalds has announced the release of Linux Kernel 3.16 final version this weekend hence ushering in the next development cycle for the 3.17 branch. This is the third time in a row that the timing hadn’t really paid-off for Linus as there is planned travelling coming up the second week of the merge window.
