Wine 1.8.3 released, Install on Ubuntu OS

Wine 1.8.3 recently released, comes with a number of new features, improvements and bugfixes. A notable update to this release is the addition of lots of NVidia cards to the GPU description table, updates to the national language support files.


Wine 1.8.3 Update

  • TeX2Word will not install
  • Cannot scroll documents being compared in winmerge
  • winhelp: Some images not shown in certain 16-bit Help files
  • Multiple 64-bit applications crash on startup (violation of the Windows 64-bit ABI, stack pointer (RSP) must be 16-byte aligned when making a call to Win64 API)
  • Adventure games from Kheops Studio hang after the logo screen (Safecracker, Destination: Treasure Island, Nostradamus: Lost Prophecy, Dracula 3, Return to Mysterious Island 2)
  • Mystic Diary – Haunted Island: Multiple sprite-related bugs in hidden object scenes
  • ElsterFormular crashes when trying to print already sent income tax return
  • Office 2010 font embedding when exporting to PDF
  • Multiple installer bundles show a broken/unresponsive dialog window during installation (installer process running out of wndproc slots)
  • Metal Gear Solid Crash
  • Multiple applications need kernel32 GetFinalPathNameByHandleA/W (64-bit Autodesk Fusion 360, Microsoft OneDrive)
  • Dragon Age 2 system diagnostics tool fails to recognize GeForce GT 425M

Install Wine 1.8.3 on Ubuntu 16.04 (Xenial Xerus), Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf), Ubuntu 15.04(Vivid Vervet), Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr)

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:wine/wine-builds

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install --install-recommends wine-staging

sudo apt-get install winehq-staging

Remove Wine:

sudo apt-get install ppa-purge

sudo ppa-purge ppa:wine/wine-builds
