Spark IM 2.7.1 released

Spark IM 2.7.1 recently released, is an Open Source, cross-platform IM client optimized for businesses and organizations. It features built-in support for group chat, telephony integration, and strong security. It also offers a great end-user experience with features like in-line spell checking, group chat room bookmarks, and tabbed conversations.

  • Printing conversation margin cuts off characters from lines that wrap

  • This release is bundled with the latest and last Java 7 update (7u80). Next releases will be bundled with Java 8 (most probably)
  • Printing GUI has been replaced with the modern Java based version

Install Spark IM 2.7.1 on Ubuntu OS


tar -zxvf spark_2_7_1.tar.gz

sudo mkdir /opt/spark

sudo mv Spark/* /opt/spark

cd /opt/spark

sudo vim /usr/share/applications/spark.desktop

Paste following contents into spark.desktop created above

[Desktop Entry]





Comment=ignite realtime Spark IM client




Exec=/bin/bash Spark





Install missing libraries if prompted

sudo apt-get install libxtst6:i386 libxi6:i386

Search and start Spark IM
