Install JEdit 5.2 Pre-Release in Ubuntu 14.04

jEdit is a programmer’s text editor written in Java. It uses the Swing toolkit for the GUI and can be configured as a rather powerful IDE through the use of its plugin architecture. jEdit includes syntax highlighting that provides native support for over 200 file formats. Support for additional formats can be added manually using XML files. It supports UTF-8 and many other encodings.

Install JEdit 5.2 Pre1

– Install Java

sudo apt-get purge openjdk*

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install oracle-java7-installer

sudo apt-get install oracle-java7-set-default

– Install JEdit
