Install Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP (LAMP) in Ubuntu 14.04

LAMP is a group of open source software that is typically installed together to enable a server to host dynamic websites and web apps. This term is an acronym for Linux operating system, Apache web server, MySQL database, and PHP/Perl/Python.

In this tutorial, I will show you the easiest way on how to successfully install LAMP on Ubuntu 14.04 using Tasksel tool.

Tasksel is a Debian/Ubuntu tool that installs multiple related packages as a co-ordinated “task” onto your system.

Step 1: Install Tasksel

sudo apt-get install tasksel

Step 2: Install LAMP Stack

sudo tasksel install lamp-server

– When prompted, enter mysql server password and repeat

– Open a browser and type ‘localhost‘ or ‘http://ip address of machine

– To confirm PHP status, create a file called ‘info.php’ in /var/www/html’ with following content:
