Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr now out

Ubuntu 14.04 LTS code named “Trusty Tahr”, finally released yesterday 17, April 2014. Ubuntu 14.04 LTS is the latest release of Ubuntu which is designed to work beautifully on the latest laptops, desktops and touch screen devices, it looks incredible on high resolution screens — and with touch screen enhancements and interface refinements including individual menu bars in each application window, it’s now even easier to use

This release includes the Linux kernel v3.13.0-24.46, Python 3.4, Xen 4.4, Libreoffice 4.2.3, MySQL 5.6/MariaDB 5.5, Apache 2.4, PHP 5.5, improvements to AppArmor allow more fine-grained control over application, and more…

Ubuntu 14.04 LTS includes a wealth of smart filters to make it faster and easier to find the content you need, whether it’s stored on your computer or on the web.

Some of the new Features:

  • Ubuntu 14.04 ships with Unity Control Center and Unity Settings Daemon, forked from GNOME Control Center and GNOME Settings Daemon so it doesn’t interfere with Ubuntu GNOME
  • The “Force Quit” dialog is now a modal dialog
  • Linux kernel incremented to version 3.13
  • A wider range of scale for launcher icons – from 16 to 64 pixels
  • New language status icon in the top menu bar
  • Unity now supports high resolution displays (HiDPI);
  • 14.04, the windows are resized in real time;
  • The default Ubuntu 14.04 themes (Ambiance and Radiance) no longer use window borders
  • System Settings (GNOME Control Centre) replaced by Unity Control Centre
  • Unity global menu can now be disabled for individual applications
