Install Linux Mint 16 Petra Xfce on VirtualBox

Linux Mint 16 Xfce recently released as part of the Linux Mint 16 Editions codename “Petra” is a lightweight desktop environment which aims to be fast and low on system resources, while still being visually appealing and user friendly. This edition features all the improvements from the latest Linux Mint release on top of an Xfce 4.10 desktop.

For a complete tour of the new features in Xfce, visit http://www.linuxmint.com/rel_petra_xfce_whatsnew.php

I have documented below steps to installing Xfce Edition (64bit) on a VirtualBox for those that fancy a trial

Step 1: Download ISO file

– Visit Linux Mint download page and download either 32bit or 64bit. Go for the 32bit version if your hardware does not support hardware-virtualization and also for stability

Step 2: Create Virtual Machine

I would assume that you are already familiar with the creation of a New virtual machine and choosing the right disk & memory sizes respectively. Note: since Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu, the version to choose will be Ubuntu
