Install VirtualBox Guest Additions on Ubuntu 13.10

VirtualBox Guest Additions is a software that brings new features to VirtualBox, such as enabling the users to copy paste between the host computer and the operating system inside VirtualBox. This allows the guest machines to fully integrate with the host machine using VirtualBox technology. Installing the guest additions software is quite simple as we shall see below

Step 1: Update & Install Packages

– First open Terminal and switch to root account with this command

[code language=”js”]# sudo su -[/code]

– Next run following commands as shown below

[code language=”js”]# apt-get update

# apt-get upgrade

# apt-get install dkms[/code]

Step 2:  Install Guest tool

– Click on Devices > Insert Guest Additions CD image…

– Click on “Run” on the pop-up box. Enter root password to continue installation

– After installation is completed, press Enter to close install window

Step 3: Enable Clipboard & Drag’n’Drop features

– Open settings of the vm, click on Advanced tab, change both “Shared Clipboard” & “Drag’n’Drop” to ‘Bidirectional

– Restart the machine and login. Attempt the following actions:

— Drag files from your host machine to the Ubuntu desktop

— Click on maximize to expand your Ubuntu screen and you will notice that the desktop automatically re-sizes
