    Hi, I’ve just loaded ubuntu 14.04 onto my new laptop and I’m slowly adding software to the system.  I followed your guide above to the letter, but after the last command of “sopcast-player” I get the following error:
    ( libglade-WARNING **: unknown attribute ‘swapped’ for <signal>.
    ( libglade-WARNING **: unknown property ‘ubuntu_local’ for class ‘GtkMenu’
    Traceback (most recent call last):
     File “/usr/share/sopcast-player/lib/”, line 785, in <module> pySop.main()
     File “/usr/share/sopcast-player/lib/”, line 135, in main
       self.vlc = VLCWidget(self.eb, self)
      File “/usr/share/sopcast-player/lib/”, line 49, in __init__
      File “/usr/share/sopcast-player/lib/”, line 885, in __new__

        raise NameError(‘no function %r’ % (name,))
    NameError: no function ‘libvlc_new’

    I have been using unix for over 30 years so okay with commands and stuff – any ideas about the way forward?
    Cheers, Lazza

    • To make it work with xubuntu, I had to install python-glade2 and vlc packages:
      $ sudo apt-get install python-glade2 vlc

    installed ok, but no sound using with Vlc and Xubuntu 14.04. any clue ???? i’ve been using sopcast-player without problems for the last years.

    • This is new to me. Try this:

      copy the stream from vlc and open another vlc window and play it with “open network stream” option. Both vlc windows must remain open

      • José Ramón m3n3chm0

        Thanks but i’ve already tried that many times, but still no sound :((((

        • José Ramón m3n3chm0

          Problem Solved :)

          VLC preferences/audio/output and changed default output module from “automatic” to “alsa audio output” and below in “device” select your internal audio device, in this case “HDA intel MID ALC269…” then the sound is alive again for Sopcast streaming events :)

          • Bravo!!!, Glad to see you sorted it out yourself. +1

          • Stefan

            For me “pulseaudio output” and it work
