I am getting a crash when I attempt to install — every time.

  • sysads

@ what stage of the install and what is the spec of the machine you are running the install on

  • Gkom

I can’t seem to be able to get past the game loading screen (you know, the one with revolving doors and the glowing rune on top).
It just gets stuck there till I close the program out of frustration.

  • sysads

What is the spec of your machine you are running this on?

  • Gkom

sysads Gkom Hey. I’m running Dell Vostro with 4 GB RAM and Intel i5.

  • sysads

Forgot to ask, what version of Linux and hardware architecture are you running

  • Gkom

sysads Gkom Sorry. I’m running Ubuntu 14.04 and I tried both PlayOnLinux and just plain out of the box wine.

  • sysads

    Gkom sysads
That’s strange. Some of the known issues reported needed dbghelp to be disabled and dllmsvcp100 to be added.
Seen someone else with similar issue and said changing your Time Zone to one that exists on windows will solve. Just to play the game I change my timezone to New York
Give this a try and let me know if it helps

  • Gkom

sysads Gkom Didn’t quite catch that last one. Do I need to change the time zone on my ubuntu to… what exactly?

  • sysads

    Gkom sysads
This was a similar issue reported by another user in WineHQ. Take a look at the recent question asked:

  • Gkom

sysads Gkom CAN’T BELIEVE THAT WORKED! FREAKING TIME ZONE! what kind of logic is that?

  • sysads

    Gkom sysads
Yep it didn’t make any sense but what is different from how you installed yours compared to others working. What version of Wine was installed in your case?

  • Gkom

sysads Gkom Tried them all. 1.17.3, 1.17.11, 1.17.15-16-17

  • sysads

    Gkom sysads
No problem. I will try it out on my VM and see if issue persist

sysads JohnMarcotte I thought I’d do a follow up.
It turns out my entire file system was failing and so everything had been “locked.” This was preventing Hearthstone from saving the installation files as it downloaded them.

I backed up some files and did a reformat on my laptop just to make sure we caught everything. On the second attempt, it worked like a charm, although I did just use stock WINE instead of the version from the PPA.

Glad to see you where able to fix it. What version of Wine are you running? I need to validate if the wine versions aren’t a factor to what issues others are seeing

  • JohnMarcotte

    sysads JohnMarcotte 1.6.2

Well everytime I try to install it got crashed. It initialized the set up and even downloaded a little bit. I am using Samsung Ultrabook 5 Series and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

  • sysads

what is the hardware spec of your Samsung?

Thanks a lot for this post, I’m a new Ubuntu user and this has come very useful to me. I’ve been having an issue with the game, the Battlenet client is runing and updating fine, but the game is a black screen. The battlenet client really is working, it even shows that the game is runing (black window). I think there might ne a graphic issue. Anyway if anyone has any idea I’d really appreciate some help !

      me too

I’m running Ubuntu 14.04 with a Nvidia 460 running the top (recommended) Propitiatory drivers. This is with an old 3 core unlocked to 4 core, processor. This worked fine for me. Did what it said with copy pasting the commands and within 10 to 15 mins it was installed and I was playing a game. Great. thank you very much 🙂

just one thing, if a complete noob like me, when you say “Open Wine” it was the one that says Configure Wine and not winetricks. Probably something people go “duh” about but I didn’t know, just thought I would say 🙂

The only other thing I have done with my system is to open up the Nvidia control panel and told it to not put V sync on by default and to go for performance over fancy. I left all other options alone and so far it’s run everything off Steam fine, Minecraft with 240 odd mods fine and now this fine.
