Install Linux Mint 16 Petra Cinnamon on VirtualBox

Linux Mint 16 Cinnamon Edition recently released as part of the Linux Mint 16 Editions codename “Petra” is a Linux desktop which provides advanced innovative features and a traditional user experience. The desktop layout is similar to GNOME Panel (GNOME 2); however, the underlying technology was forked from GNOME Shell (GNOME 3). The emphasis is put on making users feel at home and providing them with an easy to use and comfortable desktop experience.

I have documented below steps to installing Cinnamon Edition (64bit) on a VirtualBox for those that fancy a trial

Step 1: Download ISO file

– Visit Linux Mint download page and download either 32bit or 64bit. Go for the 32bit version if your hardware does not support hardware-virtualization and also for stability

Step 2: Create Virtual Machine

I would assume that you are already familiar with the creation of a New virtual machine and choosing the right disk & memory sizes respectively. Note: since Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu, the version to choose will be Ubuntu
